In an effort to cover all the great recordings that came out in 2014, I've separated out the EPs from the full length recordings. To define what albums are EPs, I look at the total length of the album and the amount of songs. If the album is under 30 minutes and contains less than seven songs, I call it an EP. For example, Reign in Blood by Slayer is under 30 minutes but there are 10 songs, so I would not call it an EP. But these are my random rules, so whatever, here is my list:

Not many new records manage to grab my attention enough to take me away from listening to music that came out before I was born - the truth is that I tend to be quite jaded when it comes to new music. Nonethleless, a few great albums come out every year, so here's a few of my favorites from this year. Since I'm not a fan of ranking albums, they're in no particular order:

A few folks have asked me for my Top 10 record picks of 2014. Although, this is by no means a comprehensive list - I don't have time to hear - the following are a few studio albums that have made a strong impression on me. That's not to say these are the only good albums released this year (they aren't), but these are the ones I might pick for a top 10 if I were to do one (there's more than 10 here).

In other words, if you haven't heard any of these yet, and you find you agree with me on some things, you may want to put these on the old Christmas list!

Because man cannot live on metal alone, here’s a list of my 10 favorite non-metal releases of 2014. My tastes tend to be kind of eclectic, so there should be a little something on this list to appeal to everyone.

2014 turned out to be one of the strongest years for metal in recent memory, making the compiling of this list something of a challenge. It seemed like a particularly strong year for black metal, which comprises half of my list.
